Cody, a fourteen-year-old Southern kid, is pressured by his rough, carefree friends to kill a little bird. He crushes it, but instead of walking away from it, he secretly puts it in his pocket and takes it with him. His choice is unusual - does he actually care about such an insignificant creature?
