Lord of the Flies is famed theater director Peter Brook's daring translation of William Golding's brilliant novel. The story of 30 English schoolboys stranded on an uncharted island at the start of "next" war, Lord of the Flies is a seminal film of the New American Cinema and a fascinating anti-Hollywood experiment in location filmmaking. As the cast relived Golding's frightening fable, Brook found the cinematic "evidence" of the author's terrifying thesis: there is a beast in us all.

The first - and best - adaption of Golding's book. Some poor acting does not detract from the power of this tale as the stranded schoolboys simultaneously shed their clothes and any civilised veneer. Another remake is now apparently planned.

Sadly, the film and sound quality is somewhat lacking in parts, and the film is greatly showing its age. However, this does not detract from the fact that this is a great classic film and well worth watching.
