Hungary
This early film from Istvan Szabo follows two childhood sweethearts who are inseparable until the Nazi's invasion of Hungary. They reunite, only to be separated again in the mid-fifties when one lover rejects Communist rule and emigrates to France while the other remains in Budapest. Keeping in touch through letters, they finally meet again and must decide if their lives will remain united or apart. "A gentle but telling film about human experience and the vagaries of love" (Gene Moskowitz, Variety).

The above comment should of course say "kärlek" (not kärlighed), but for some reason users cannot edit their own comments on here. I hope that option gets added sooner than later (very surprised such an old place hasn't done so years ago!), it's annoying to have to look at my own mistakes like that and not be able to do anything about it :/ |

There is also another "En film om kärlighed" that I initially thought was this one but isn't on here at all (as it should be). That one is swedish from 1987. |
