Poucette, helped by Anaïk, visit Jean in his bedroom. The child is delirious and Poucette writes down everything he says. A name keeps coming back: Caumont. Poucette finds that name in his suitcase tagged to a baby's diaper that was once his. He asks Mme Martin-Chupart in presence of her husband if she knows a man named Caumont.
