Ten-year-old Anouar has been living in the Netherlands for four years now, with his little sister Sahar and his mother Mahvash. Ever since they escaped Iran, they have been waiting for their father and husband to join them. Until one day the phone rings and Mahvash receives the terrible news of her husbands death. Her world collapses and she is temporarily unable to take care of the children. But Anouar is old enough to manage and divert his little sisters' attention from the grief that has struck their home, telling her stories about the moon in the sky, who comforts everybody. But Sahar gets even sadder when she hears the moon will always stay at a distance. So Anouar sets out to get the moon for her, climbs the roof and... unexpectedly succeeds! Thus the light returns to their home, and his little sister is full of joy again, treating the moon like a doll of her own. But something has changed about the world and the people, who have to live without the moon now. Anouar starts realising his theft could have some strange consequences, even more so when the light of the moon starts to get less bright every hour. It looks like the moon is dying. When Sahar runs away with the moon, Anouar needs the help of his mother to solve his problems. They need to become a family again, to experience their loss and mourning together, and return the moon to where she belongs. - IMDb
