As narrated by his mother, this movie is a re-enactment of events in the life of Joseph Smith as it pertains to the restoration and growth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Set in upstate New York, the movie portrays pivotal events include the first vision where Joseph saw God, the father and his son Jesus Christ; the visit of the angel Moroni and the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon; The visit of John the Baptist and the restoration of the priesthood; The building of the Kirtland Temple. The movie portrays the western migration of the faithful saints and the difficulties they endured as they endeavored to live their lives in the midst of persecution by those that do not understand them. The death of Joseph Smith at the hands of a mob in Missouri is a culminating event in the movie.
