Review:

This movie is set in Khrushchev-era Soviet Russia. It tells the story of an eighth-grade boy who gets arrested and imprisoned through no fault of his own. - amazon.com

A harrowing look at the old Soviet style prison system. Danya Tolkachev plays a boy who gets falsely imprisoned on a theft charge. There is no holding cell or bail type hearing in the old system, so the boy is hauled off to prison. He meets the other prisoners, and most try to protect him from predators. There was no juvenile facilities, so the boy is sent to an adult prison.
There is violence and the threat of rape and sexual abuse to the boy, but it is usually thwarted by his protectors. It is a gloomy movie that packs a big punch. Recommended for those who have a taste for a serious film.
