1 Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien (2000)
Review: On a hot day in a highway gas station men's room, a man Michel doesn't recognize says they went to school together. He's Harry. He suggests they have a drink, so he and his girlfriend follow Michel and his family to their summer place. Michel is amazed when Harry quotes from memory a poem Michel wrote in school. Harry thinks Michel is a great writer, and he's distressed that Michel hasn't written in years. Harry stays awhile (since his father's death, he's a man of leisure) and sets out to eliminate distractions that might keep Michel from writing. First he buys Michel a car (with air conditioning) and then suspicious things happen. Michel picks up a pen, Harry is gratified, but he's not finished being Michel's self-appointed patron. - IMDb
2 Forteresse, La (1947)
- IMDb
3 Temps d'une chasse, Le (1972)
Review: Willy, Richard, and Lionel, three blue-collar friends from Montreal East, leave the city and travel to the countryside for a weekend of hunting. Richard's wife forces him to bring along his young son, Michel. For these men, hunting represents total freedom and a chance to rid themselves of the frustrations of domestic life by proving their manhood. The group spends their first night at a motel bar and Michel silently observes as the adults get drunk, try to outdo each other with insults, and sexually harass the waitresses at the bar. It becomes apparent to him that Willy is not up to trip; he is overweight and clings to his glory days of the past. Michel must also watch as his father conducts an affair with a waitress. When the hunt finally begins, Michel contemplates the imposed belief that a man ought to be a womanizing drinker who's good with a gun. Eventually, the irresponsibility of the three men results in tragedy. - IMDb
4 Amour, c'est mieux à deux, L' (2010)
Review: Michel dreams of a perfect meeting with the woman of his dreams, entirely due to chance, as his parents and grandparents experienced. Vincent, Michel's contrast, is completely different. He is more the man of the direct approach and he follows his...! The two childhood friends Michel and Vincent, with completely opposite views when it comes to women, soon discover the limits of their respective techniques when they meet Angèle and Nathalie. - IMDb
5 Neiges du Kilimandjaro, Les (2011)
Review: At a French shipyard, a trade unionist named Michel deliberately arranges to have himself on the dockworkers' randomly chosen downsizing list to spare another of his fellow workers. While he has his severance package and his friends and family's generosity to ease this sacrifice, this also gets his home invaded and robbed along with his wife and friends. Through pure luck, Michel finds out the identity of one of his assailants, a young worker who was on the same downsizing list himself, and gets him arrested. However, both Michel and his wife find that their vindictive satisfaction is soured by their realization of their assailant's motives and the larger consequences of their revenge. Struggling with their conscience, the couple finds themselves independently trying to live up to their ideals for a greater sense of justice. - IMDb
6 Rosie (1998)
Review: In a juvenile lockup, a new ward answers questions: she's Rosie, 13, no parents, a sister Irene, a brother Michel. In flashbacks we find out what happened. She lives with Irene, who's 27, whom Rosie knows is in fact her mother, but that's their secret. Irene's brother Michel, unemployed, a compulsive gambler, comes to stay with them. Around then, Irene meets Bernard; they come to care for each other. This leaves Rosie without attention, so she puts all her adolescent hopes and romantic fantasies into a relationship with Jimi, a good looking kid she sees on a bus. Is it adventures with Jimi that land her in juvie? Once she's there, why doesn't he answer her letters?
7 Banzaï (1983)
Review: Lacking the bite to be really funny, this wilted farce stars French comedian Coluche as Michel Bernardin, a white-collar trouble-shooter for tourists caught in a bind, or in bandages, depending on the problem. His business "Planet Assistance" sends people all over to help travelers in need, and as his first assignment of the moment, Michel goes off to a North African nation to get a man out of the hospital and back to Paris. After he arrives, he escapes from the hospital and the country with the wrong man and accidentally sets off a coup d'etat. Next, in New York, he is attacked by men who think he is a drug lord when he is in Harlem trying to bring a hospitalized musician home to France. Lastly, he goes to Hong Kong where he comes across his fiancée but is also an unwitting puppet of some racketeers. By this time, the comedy has sunk so low it has dipped completely out of sight. - Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
8 Love Affair (1939)
Review: French playboy Michel Marnet and American Terry McKay fall in love aboard ship. They arrange to reunite 6 months later, after Michel has had a chance to earn a decent living. - IMDb
9 Paroles et musique (1984)
Review: When Peter, Margaux's American writer husband, leaves Paris in a funk and heads home, she finds herself the single parent of two near teens. She also gets a new assignment at work: to find, sign, and promote new rock singers. She discovers a duo, Michel and Jeremy, and jump-starts their career. Jeremy is attracted to the older Margaux, asserts himself with her, befriends her children, and neglects Michel and the music. The kids go to New York to be with their father, freeing Margaux to respond to Jeremy. Does that relationship have any future? And what of the musical duo? - IMDb
10 This Love of Ours (1945)
Review: At a convention, medical researcher Michel Touzac goes with colleagues to see stage caricaturist Targel, whose assistant Florence recognizes him...and attempts suicide. Saved by Touzac's new technique, Florence is revealed in a flashback as Michel's abandoned wife Karin, whom their daughter Susette thinks is dead. Can Susette cope if they now re-unite? - IMDb
