A moving and well made drama with an excellent cast. |

A controversial movie, "For a Lost Soldier" tells of Jeroen's first love at age 12. It is told in flashbacks to WWII, where we meet Jeroen's family. As they try to get on with day to day living during war time, Jeroen falls for a captain in the army. The story is told in a very mature matter, and the sexual scene is actually off screen. The controversy is the relationship between the boy and the man. One of the problems of the movie is we really don't find out what is going through an adult man's mind about having a relationship with a 12 year old boy. He is in his late twenties and has a promising career in the military, but if the affair is discovered, would lose all and possibly serve a long prison sentence. Maarten gives an excellent and brave performance here. The other actors are also very good. I would have given it a higher mark if it dealt more with the adult's thinking, but it is about a man's memories as a boy. Recommended, but the sexual themes may be to much for some viewers.... more Rating: 8/10 |
