Цане, его дед, их корова, да школьная учительница — единственные обитатели скромной деревушки. В один прекрасный день дед говорит Цане, что чувствует приближение смерти. Перед кончиной он просит Цане исполнить его завет: пойти в город, продать корову, на вырученные деньги купить икону, затем купить то, что ему захочется и, наконец, найти себе жену.
