A film comprising 6 short films: "La paire de chaussures", "Le regard d’un enfant", "Open the door, please", "Short Night", "Un secret derrière la porte" & "Une naissance". The starting-point of each part of the film is a childhood story taken from the biography of a great filmmaker-Orson Welles, Jean Renoir, Fritz Lang, Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock and Jaques Tati-and freely interpreted and adapted by a contemporary director, making it an original history. A key moment is found in the childhood of each one-a singular event that played an essential role in fashioning the adult that he became.
10-летний Фриц Ланг в Австрии образца 1900-го года впервые сталкивается с антисемитизмом, что приводит к локальному восстанию внутри его семьи. Сын великого художника, малыш Жан Ренуар проводит лето в деревне, и местный паренек помогает ему взглянуть на мир по-новому. Завороженного театром маленького Альфреда Хичкока мать лишает спектакля, а ночью после этого события родители куда-то исчезают. А детство Ингмара Бергмана круто меняется после рождения младшей сестры.
