Much of this film relies upon guesswork, knowledge of survival in its most desperate form, and a mixture of patience and understanding of human emotions, and being confronted with abject and senseless violence from the outset is enough to set the pace in this respectable piece of cinematography. Shot entirely on various locations, with a cast that admirably does it justice, it is full of hopelessness and despair, and much is left to conjecture from the outset.

The relatively slow pace and obscurity somehow reinforces the pathos and emotional conflicts, and do not expect anything joyous from this film, for it is one continuous saga of pain and suffering.

Being fond of apocolyptic movies I may be losing some objectivity regarding this movie. In saying that I will say it is slowmoving , hoever in real life that isthe case sowe do not experience everything in 90 minute increments . A filmlike this should be seen withthatin mind . The realism lies in the fact "what happened" insofar as the destruction of civilization...it does not matter . In a real cataclysm factual informatiom would be scarce to say the least . The movie does not dwell on what happened or who's fault was it...it is about surviving and learning to do what it takes to survive . Made years before "The Road" , this movie has every bit as much or more substance . The acting was natural and seemingly not scripted nor forced direction .
The people were not the "Beautiful" casted actors , they were more like our friends and neighbors . The movie led one to listen to the stories and myths generated by hope and hopelessness of destitute people trying to make sense of anything in the world they have been thrust into . This is (only my opinion) far better than "The Road"...being more real and much more painful.... more
